YOGA FOR HAIR FALL CONTROL & GROWTH

Yoga For Hair Fall Control

Hair is the crowning glory of any individual. It adds to our personality and makes us look attractive and young. A person with thinning hair would look prematurely old and weak. Earlier hair fall was associated with genetics and old age, but now even young people report of hair fall and hair loss. Hair fall is known as alopecia in medical terms. There are different forms of hair fall. While it is normal to lose a few strands of hair on a daily basis, an abnormal amount of hair loss makes us worry. Alopecia areata is a condition in which people lose their hair quite suddenly leading to bald patches in circular forms. Next there exists a reversible condition known as telogen effluvium where people tend to lose their hair after facing stressful situations. We also have a condition known as anagen effluvium in which people lose abnormal amount of hair in the first phase of growth cycle of hair. Lastly there is baldness condition where people (both males and females) lose their hair on a permanent basis. While the last condition is incurable the first three could certainly be cured through proper diet and yoga.

Now a days hair fall is the result of increasing urbanisation and modern lifestyle of junk food and irregular timing of eating and sleeping. Yoga is certainly a very powerful and safe remedy for this. Yoga helps in controlling the hair loss and also in the re-growth of hair loss. You just have to incorporate a few asanas of yoga in your daily routine of life and find it to be effective. You are just required to do yoga for half an hour and find yourself in a better and healthy state. Yoga involving forward bending enhances the blood circulation in crown region which nourishes the roots of hair. Within a month or so the reduction of hair loss and growth of hair can be observed. There are 14 yoga poses to control the hair loss and to help in the growth of lost hair.

Balayam Yoga or Rubbing nails

Fold the fingers of both your hands such that the nails are facing each other and rub the nails against each other. It can be done either in sitting or in standing position. It has to be performed for5-7 minutes continuously.

Kapalbhati Pranayam

This is a breathing exercise (a part of pranayama). It is a continuation of breathing in and breathing out exercise. Starting with 50 repetitions in the beginning can be increased afterwards as per your capacity.

Uttanasana

Inhale deeply while standing and bend forward with your waist onwards holding your heels with your hands and nose almost touching the knees. Hold in this position for 40 seconds or a minute. Get back to the normal position while exhaling. Beginners can try to touch the floor even if they find themselves unable to do so. In due course of time you would be able to do it properly.

Keeping the knees on the floor while you keep the rest of your body in a vertical position, try to bend backwards from the waist onwards while inhaling deeply, keeping your upper half horizontal and palms flat on your heels. Hold in this position for 30-60 seconds. Breathing should be normal during the entire yoga exercise.

Lie down flat on your back on the yoga mat, hands straightand palms flat on the mat. Lift both your legs vertical and normal breathing. This asana is very useful for the re growth of hair follicles.

Sasangasana

The literal meaning of Sasangasana is “rabbit pose”. Sasangasana is one of the most useful asanas for control of hair fall. Here take up the position of Ustrasana by keeping yourself on your knees but instead of bending forward you have to bend forward in this pose touching the floor (mat) with your head, try to keep your head as close to your knees as possible. Gradually you shall be able to touch your knees as well as the floor. This pose allows the blood to flow at a faster rate to the scalp to nourish the scalp helping in reduction of hair loss and in growing hair.

Adho Mukha Svanasana

This is the inverted “V” position of your body, where you push your hips up with the push of ground with your palms and feet. This asana too increases the flow of blood to the scalp and nourishes the roots of the hair.

this posture is an imitation of fish. To do this yoga you have to sit cross legged and bend backwards. Bending the neck also rets your head on the ground and lift your chest up by pushing your palms beneath your hips. This pose also increases the flow of blood to the scalp, nourishing the roots of hair, thus preventing the hair fall.

Apasana Yoga

for this pose, lie on the yoga mat on your back and lifting your knees up hold it with both your hands such that your lower half of the legs are parallel to the ground. Apasana Yoga is an asana that is practiced to release all the harmful gases out of your system and helps to improve the digestive system. The blood gets purified on account of improvement in the digestion. The purified blood strengthens the hair follicles.

Sarvangasana

Sarvangasana is one of the best form of yoga for preventing hair loss. But this form of yoga is not recommended for people with back pain or any other type of chronic pain. Lying on the mat you should lift your body from below your shoulders in a vertical position supported by both your hands. This asana has been proved to reduce baldness in both males and females.

Anulom Vilom

this is a breathing technique. You have to close one nostril and breathe out and with the same nostril breathe in then repeat this action with other nostril. Keep on alternate exhaling and inhaling for as long as you can preferably for minimum of 5 minutes.

Bhastrika Pranayama

it is an inhaling and exhaling exercise done alternately. While inhaling is done normally exhaling is done forcefully.

Pranayama is part of yoga which helps in keeping the lungs healthy and stimulating the flow of oxygenated blood in the body to nourish the scalp and the roots of hair.

Sirsasana

Sirsasana is actually a headstand where you have to bend your hands inwards from elbow and pull your body up putting the entire weight of your body on your hands. This asana also improves the blood flow to nourish the scalp and regenerate the hair follicles.

Pawanmuktasana

This asana is similar to the Apasana yoga asana, the difference being that the knees are brought closer to your chin added by lifting your head to meet the knees. This asana is helpful in reducing the stress which is one of the greatest reason for hair loss.

The above mentioned yoga practices (asana) are for hair fall control and re-growth, but you have to be patient for getting the positive result. In yoga result can never be achieved overnight. Also, remember to eat balanced diet. You can take vitamin E supplements to boost hair growth after consulting your doctor.
